This site is written and maintained by me, Jerry Travis Smith. I am a computer geek, but unlike most hardcore geeks, I have pretty decent communication skills. I got my first computer in November 1997 and I have had a passion for computing ever since.

I am by no means a guru, but I have dabbled in most areas of computing, including hardware, software, programming, web design, graphics design, digital photography, and networking. The keyword there is "dabbled." I have a great deal of knowledge of Microsoft OS's dating back to DOS 2.2 and am currently running Vista. I would also say I have a very good grasp of cross-platform web page design.

I have completed or am working on several small PHP/MySQL projects including: a student transcript database, an online, searchable King James Version Bible, the blogging software used on this site, and a lesson plan creator. Most are for my private use, but if a couple of the projects mature, I'm going to make the code open source. I can't stand the thought of releasing crappy software upon the world.

One question that seems to be some kind of determinant on how big a computer geek you are is: Do you run Linux? As a matter of fact, I regularly run Ubuntu. Am I a Linux guru? Hardly. Can I use a Linux box to do everyday stuff? You bet. Can you use bash? Yep, but I'm not the greatest. Can I compile stuff in Linux? Most of the time, providing the config options are less than 20 or so...

Oh, so you were looking for a bit more personal information...Hmmm. OK. I'm a business teacher at the Breathitt County Area Technology Center. Teaching is very difficult but rewarding. I would rather do that than crunch code all day long.

On May 27, 2006, I wed my lovely wife, Rebecca Gross. Getting married is the best thing that has happened to me thusfar in life. I love my wife very much.

More? Geez...You people don't give up, do you? I like to read, listen to music, and watch TV. I dislike people that take themselves too seriously. I also loathe people who write me off before they get to know me. I'm a little odd at first but what you see is what you get. No games or guises. Finally, my favorite quote is "Patience is the essence of virtue."

You may be wondering why I use my first and middle name on everything, and if you do, I don't blame you: It is a little odd. There are two reasons for this. One is that some people know me by Jerry Smith and others know me by Travis Smith. So, I decided to cover all my bases on the site and use both. The other reason is that Jerry Smith is the second most common name in the United States. I wanted to differentiate myself a little, and I figured the inclusion of my first name would do the trick.

You can email me at trav@jerrytravis.com. I hope you find this site somehow useful.
